Significant Improvement in Cognition in Mild to Moderately Severe Dementia Cases Treated with Transcranial PlusIntranasal Photobiomodulation: Case Series Report Significant Improvement in Cognition in Mild to Moderately Severe Dementia Cases Treated with Transcranial Plus Intranasal
Photobiomodulation: Case Series Report

Conclusions

Results from this small study suggest that transcranial plus intranasal NIR PBM therapy may be safely used with mild to moderately severe dementia and AD (baseline MMSE of 10—24). Results showed significant improvement in cognition, functional abilities for daily living, and improved QoL. PBM was very well tolerated, exhibiting no adverse effects. The treatments likely need to be continued, however, on a regular, long-term basis. This suggests the importance of having PBM devices that are amenable to home use for treating dementia and AD. Results suggest that large-scale, controlled studies with homogeneous populations are warranted.

Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy is a safe, non-invasive. and non-thermal modalitv that is based on a stronz bodv of research dating back to the 1960s. anti-inflammatorv effects.— and increased focal cerebral blood flow-I'S With neurodegenerative diseases such as AD.11-14 and Parkinson's disease.15—17 These results encourage using transcramal PIBM to treat patients diagnosed with dementia or AD.

Metabolism

Improved metabolic functioning is one of the most easily recognizable effects ofPBM. and increased intracellular ATP production is one the most strongly supported mechanisms. A general finding that mitochondrial dysfunction. inadequate supplies of ATP, and oxidative stress are contributorv factors in almost all forms of brain disease [60]. This has been reported for neurological conditions such as major depressive disorder [6 1], traumatic brain injury [62], Parkinson's disease [63], and for AD [64].

Blood Flow

One of the changes that is easiest to measure after tPBM, is the change In cerebral blood flow and oxvgenation. This applies In expenmental animals, and especially in human subjects.

Anti-inflammatory Effects

Inflammation is the one of the innate immune system's defenses against foreign bodies such as bacteria and viruses. On a cellular level, it occurs when the transcription factor NF -KB is activated. While acute inflammation is positive, chronic inflammation can have very negative effects. Many diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases and mood disorders, can be traced at least in part to chronic inflammation.

Stem Cells

It should not be forgotten that when any kind of PBM light is shone onto a living animal, it is inevitable that some stem cells will be exposed to light. It is known that stem cells respond well to PBM in terms of proliferation and differentiation

Transcranial low-level laser therapy improves brain mitochondrial function and cognitive impairment A brief look at how Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) can increase our attention memory and more.

Conclusions

But so far, the use of LLLT for many purposes such as the alleviation of depression, the enhancement of cognition (attention, memory and reactions) and the ability to accelerate would healing and regeneration are some of the primarv benefits of LLLT and the majority of research so far is very promising cognition-improving intervention in animals and humans. This fascinating new approach should also be able to influence other brain functions depending on the neuroanatomical site stimulated and the stimulation parameters used.

Transcranial infrared laser stimulation produces beneficial cognitive and emotional effects in humans

Conclusion

I ran transcranial laser stimulation improved cognitive and emotional functions in humans Randomized, placebo-controlled blind trials using attention, memory and mood tests- > Reaction time in a psychomotor vigilance task was significantly improved. Laser effects also lead to 2 weeks of sustained positive emotional states.

Significant Improvement in Cognition in Mild to Moderately Severe Dementia Cases Treated with Transcranial Plus Intranasal Photobiomodulation: Case Series Report

Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy is a safe, non-invasive, and non-thermal modality that is based on a strong body of research dating back to the 1960s. Also known as low-level laser (or light) therapy, it uses either visible red or near-infrared (NLR) light to stimulate, heal, and repair damaged or dying tissue cells. "Ille mechanisms of action involve the stimulation of mitochondria by the absorption of photons in cytochrome c oxidase, resulting in increased adenosine triphosphate production, reduced oxidative stress, anti-inflammatory effects,6 and increased focal cerebral blood flow.

Case # 6

In the five mild to moderately severe dementia cases who participated in this transcranial plus PBM study, significant improvements were present in cognition after 12 weeks of active treatment. In addition to significant improvements in cognition after 12 weeks of active treatment, the families and patient’s reported QOL, Improvements wcrc noted in functional abilities (i.e., decreased incontinence and increased mobility): the areas sleep, fewer angry outbursts, less anxiety, and wandering

Testimonials

was very skeptical about trying laser therapy for symptoms from my stroke last October. I was color blind, poor vision in my right eye making me almost blind. My left eyesight was better but damaged by the stroke. My balance was off and weak on my right side making it difficult to walk without a cane. I also have experienced severe headaches every day since the stroke.

I received an evaluation and my first laser treatment on a Monday. During the procedure I only felt some warmth to my skin. After that first treatment, I was home watching TV when for the first time was able to see much better out of my right eye and I was able to see color. My headaches are much less frequent and sever. I am scheduled for weekly visits and look forward to continued improvement. It is a pleasure to work with Dr. White and the team at New Life Laser.

John Preston

My wife had a stroke that has left her unable to walk, feed herself or speak. Since her stroke she has had uncontrollable very loud outbursts of yelling and making sounds. I heard about Dr. White and New Life Laser and made an appointment. My wife received her first Laser Therapy on a Monday. Over the next couple of days, I was aware she was speaking some very garbled words. She also was making sounds when she hears her favorite music. Her loud outbursts are less frequent and severe. I am grateful for Dr. White and the team at New Lif Laser for helping my wife have a better quality of life.

Signed,
Mr. Subdi
